Sit back and relax as you drift into the simpler times of days gone by. The folk art of Katie Berry captures the pastoral spirit and nautical charm of old New England in a series of wonderful works on aged boards. Katie draws on her love of history and tradition in her paintings. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, her family's roots there go back almost two hundred years. Two of her ancestors' homes are now museums there and she has a rich family history that includes sea captains sailing from Westport, Connecticut as well as one of our nation's first female doctors, also from Connecticut. Katie has been painting as long as she can remember. Her professional career has spanned five decades with accomplishments including one-person gallery shows, masterful formal portraits and numerous professional illustration commissions. Starting in the mid-1990's Katie's artistic leanings returned to the folk art she had always dabbled with. She began painting custom designs on furniture at Seven Country Ducks in Monroe, Connecticut. Eventually she developed a unique folk art style all her own, which featured stylized, muted landscapes and subtle color harmonies. The uniqueness of her vision was recognized by Fred and Madeline Shapiro of Alpenglow Art, Inc. who published her pictures in a series of charming framed prints available at finer country style gift and decorating stores. If you would like to see more of her images, call Stockbridge & Berry Home Furnishings at 203-264-2777. You will find a full collection of her prints available at their stores in Southbury and Monroe, Connecticut. You may also view originals and meet the artist there (by appointment).
